ARTICLES
To access the articles screen, go to Stock >> Articles.
An Article is something you sell. It can be 1 bottle of coke, it can be 6 bottles of coke,
it can be a pair of jeans, or it can be 1 hour of service at a particular rate.
Typically, an article has 6 main properties; A Barcode (or Unique Identifier), A Description,
A Category, A Tax Department which determines the VAT rate and the Selling price. One of your tasks
before you can actually start issuing invoices is to build your article list. This can be quite
tedious at first, especially if you have a large stock database which sometimes can run into thousands
of different items.
Important: In the Article screen you do not actually specify the quantity you have in stock.
In this module you are only building your stock list. To specify your quantities in stock, refer
to the Transfer Stock In module, also found under the Stock Menu.
CATEGORISATION OF STOCK
It might be a good idea to Categorise your stock. This can come in handy when reporting
on your sales performance, or even when reporting in general. You can categorise your stock by Category and Supplier. For
more detail, refer to the help section about Categories and Suppliers before you actually start building your stock list.
In iLabPOS, to categorise your stock you need to create your Category Groups, under which you create various categories Then
articles are in turn themselves attached to a category.
You can have an idea of how stock is categorised in the illustration below.
You do not necessarily need to have 2 levels of categorisation. You can choose to have just 1 Category
Group and a set of categories below it.
